Published Oct 01, 2013We're now into the month of October, and this week we've been greeted with a whole bunch of hyped releases to herald the new month. With new albums from Danny Brown, Justin Timberlake, Lorde and HAIM, among others, there's a whole lot to get to in our highlight reel below, but as always, there's even more to read about in our Recently Reviewed section.
First off, Danny Brown returns with his new album, Old. While his previous album was largely a solo affair, Old brings in a slew of guests, but they all complement Brown well — especially the producers, including Rustie and Purity Ring — making this album well worth the hype.
Having already released The 20/20 Experience this year, Justin Timberlake goes in a different direction to make The 20/20 Experience 2 of 2 not feel like a retread. Find out if it all works in our review. Meanwhile, HAIM shows passion for R&B and hip-hop rhythms that make Days Are Gone more than your typical pop album.
New Zealand's 16-year-old pop phenom Lorde has been generating worldwide buzz ever since "Royals" hit the airwaves, and she's now releasing her first full-length, Pure Heroine. As per usual, she shows maturity and wisdom far beyond her years.
On the folkier side of things, Saskatoon's the Deep Dark Woods have just released their latest album, Jubilee. The lengthy album is full of poetic lyricism, great vocal harmonies and a couple of killer closing cuts. Finally, on the electronic spectrum, we have Oneohtrix Point Never's R Plus Seven, which manages to be the artist's most melodious album to date.
