Gatto Fritto

The self-titled debut album by UK artist Gatto Fritto grooves with mid-tempo, light infused beats. The record comes out on International Feel, a new label operating out of Uruguay dedicated to freestyle disco and deep house sounds of the mature variety. The music exhibits the psychedelic within the slowed-down, Balearic disco family. Song titles run the cool, yet weird, mile, as do the sounds in the music, albeit in different ways. "The Curse" opens the album, introducing the glowing psychedelia and new-wave inspired vocals. "Hex" prolongs the new-wave vibe, alongside funky guitars. Songs like "Grinding of the Brakes" and "Solar Flares Burn For You" create explorations in sound that push the boundaries set by popular music. The happy vibes on "Lucifer Morning Star" could be interpreted as a bit cheesy, while recognizing it's challenging to make extremely happy music sound up to speed. "Beachy Head" closes the record in a sweet astrological mood.
