Gallows

Orchestra of Wolves

BY Ty TrumbullPublished Jul 10, 2007

From the opening notes of "Kill the Rhythm,” it becomes pretty clear what you’re getting yourself into: a raucous hardcore record that is equal parts Refused and Converge. There is just as much fist-throwing intensity as opportunities to tap your feet, as the band mix volatile chord changes with strikingly danceable rhythms. Songs like "Abandon Ship” can reach epic proportions, enough to make you start a circle pit inside your bedroom, as Orchestra of Wolves plays as loud as your poor ears can take. However, tracks like "Six Years” turn intensely introspective and heartfelt. The band’s ferocious delivery combines the sneer and disdain that was once synonymous with punk with the musical chops to back it up. Gallows are not a band to be taken lightly.
