Fucked Up Collect Rarities on New Double-Disc Singles Comp

BY Alex HudsonPublished Oct 20, 2009

Hot on the heels of Fucked Up's Polaris Music Prize victory, Matador Records has announced that the label is releasing a compilation of songs previously only available on the band's many obscure seven- and twelve-inch singles.

The 25-song collection is called Couple Tracks, and is a sequel to the group's earlier compilation, Epics in Minutes, which was released in 2004. In fact, the album cover is a recreation of the earlier photo taken for Epics in Minutes, a concept that is a tribute to the Beatles' red and blue albums.

The new comp will feature tracks released around the world on a variety of labels, as well as five unreleased songs. It begins with the A-side of the band's first ever single, "No Pasarán," but the rest of the collection isn't so chronological. Instead, it is arranged into two discs: The Hard Stuff and The Fun Stuff.

The label notes that even if you purchase both Couple Tracks and Epics in Minutes, "you will still have only a portion of the incredible Fucked Up singles output, but definitely the cream of the crop."

On November 5, Fucked Up will play a show at Brooklyn's Masonic Temple, where they will perform the Polaris Music Prize-winning The Chemistry of Common Life in its entirety. In order to help them replicate the album's lush arrangements, the band will be joined by a supporting cast that includes Andrew W.K., the Vivian Girls and Katie Stelmanis.

Couple Tracks is due out on Matador on January 26.
