Friends of Foes

'Chronophobic' (album stream)

BY Alex HudsonPublished Dec 16, 2013

Bands normally tend to release albums in plenty of time before the holiday season, but Saskatoon's Friend of Foes are defying convention by issuing Chronophobic on December 26. Before this self-released debut officially drops, it's available to stream on Exclaim.ca.

The 12 tracks mostly consist of pretty chiming guitars, echoing atmospherics and sweetly tuneful vocals. The arrangements are fairly minimal and sparse, and the band occasionally offset the sweetness of their low-key indie rock ditties with fuzzy fretwork on "This City," "Light Sleepers:Heavy Dreamers" and "Dear Past Self."

The album was produced by the band, along with Jordan Smith. According to a press release, "The debut effort from Friends of Foes tells stories of loves lost, coming of age, and coming to term with the new found life obstacles of adulthood."
