Frida Sundemo

"Dead" (Half-truth remix)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Apr 10, 2015

Montreal-based DJ/producer Half-truth dropped his unabashedly poppy self-titled EP back in the fall, then followed it up with his own edgier take on Brooke Williams' sugary single "You Got Game." Now, the musical manipulator has returned with another new track, this time taking on Frida Sundemo's "Dead," and Exclaim! has got the exclusive premiere.

Sundemo hails from Sweden, and delivers pop music with a twist — not unlike the sounds of Sia or her fellow Swede Robyn. Building on the bare bones of piano and voice that comprise the original, Half-truth fills it in with synths, drums and organ.

He offered up the following statement about the inspiration and process behind the remix:

I saw her at SXSW and was really blown away and snuck backstage to introduce myself, then rearranged my schedule to see her again the next night at what I was told was a "bear bar" by a local. I started in on this remix when I got back to Montreal. The original track is really sparse — just electric piano and her voice. It was a really nice canvas to add drums and extra synths and an organ. I really wanted to get the chorus as big as possible, in a Lido or Rustie-kinda way, and I think I did that.

You can hear what that sounds like for yourself by giving his remix of "Dead" a spin in the player below.
