French Paddleboat

Conversions in Metric

BY Sean PalmerstonPublished Feb 1, 2000

As one half of the very talented Vote Robot, the teenaged Scott August seems to be somewhat of a prodigy in the Canadian experimental scene. This newest offering from August, his first digital outing under the moniker French Paddleboat, should do nothing but escalate the praise laid upon him. Seemingly inspired by the German artists such as Tied & Tickled Trio and Pole, Conversions in Metric was recorded deep inside the Okanagan valley of BC in ’97, but instantly seems much more current than that. Containing minimal beats and keyboard drones that lilt as much as they groove, Conversions in Metric is good late night listening for the suburban sect.
