Freelance Whales Reveal 'Diluvia,' Premiere new Single
Queens indie rock troupe Freelance Whales spent a couple of years supporting their 2010 debut Weathervanes, touring with the likes of Foals, among others. But the band are now shifting gears to promote their upcoming sophomore set, Diluvia. The new LP will be issued October 9 through Mom + Pop Music/Frenchkiss.

A press release explains that Diluvia was written over the course of a year before the outfit hooked up with producer Shane Stoneback (Vampire Weekend, Sleigh Bells, Cults) at his New York studio. A tracklisting has yet to be revealed, but the new song cycle apparently adds more electronics to the banjo-utilizing band's repertoire, and the PR hints that it features "more aggressive rhythm."

As far as lyrics go, the new album is said to be about "the possible survival -- or peril -- of space-faring humans and other arguably fantastical scenarios," with songs centering on "space exploration, ancient astronauts, dreams, and natural and artificial selection."
