Freak Heat Waves Return with 'Bonnie's State of Mind,' Premiere New Track

BY Alex HudsonPublished Nov 25, 2014

This winter, music fans will be kept warm by some Freak Heat Waves. Before you go throwing away your jacket, we should mention that we're talking about the fast-rising group from Victoria, who will release their sophomore album Bonnie's State of Mind on February 3 through Hockey Dad Records.

A press release cites influences like krautrock, Television, the Fall and Brian Eno, describing the result as that of a "futuristic post-punk band" travelling through "sleazy discos, underground punk venues and gleaming white art galleries." The album, which follows their 2012 self-titled debut, was recorded over a period of a year in various cities and town across Canada.

The initial pressing of the record is 500 copies, which come on black 150-gram vinyl. They're available to pre-order on Hockey Dad's website.

The album cover is above and the tracklist is below. Keep scrolling down to hear the track "Design of Success," which sports an arty, starkly synth-driven post-punk groove. Also below, watch a VHS-style promo video, featuring a passage of "Design of Success" along with retro dance visuals.
