Last year, Scottish dance-rock combo Franz Ferdinand toured extensively and premiered some new songs, but there was no word as to when they might release a new album. Now, the band have confirmed the details of their fourth album, Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action, due out on August 27 via Domino.
This follow-up to 2009's Tonight was recorded over the past year at Alex Kapranos' studio in Scotland, Nick McCarthy's Sausage Studios, and Club Ralph Recording Studio in London, as well as in Stockholm and Oslo. According to the press release, "In their time away, they've rediscovered the imagination, vitality and fun found on their classic, era-encapsulating debut Franz Ferdinand."
Kapranos explained the album with the following cryptic statement: "The Intellect Vs The Soul, played out by some dumb band."
The press release adds that the album boasts a broad spectrum of influences and inventiveness, containing "painterly lyrical detail, heavyweight hooks, precise aesthetic vision and that uncanny ability to marry arch artistic sensibility with pop punch."

The album will be released on CD, deluxe double CD, LP, deluxe double LP, and digital download. The bonus disc included in the two-CD and two-LP versions is a live studio session called Right Notes, Right Words, Wrong Order.
There will also be a special release called Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action — The Passport Edition, which contains all of the deluxe edition formats, plus the accompanying 7-inch and 12-inch singles and exclusive content. This is available in a limited edition of 500.
