Franklin Franklin

Franklin are from Philadelphia but you'd never know it. Judging solely by their eponymous sophomore release, you'd be forgiven for thinking they were a Dischord band from DC. Combining elements of Police-inspired reggae-pop, Sly and Robbie-approved low-bass dub and jangly post-punk guitar rock, they sound like a cross between Scream, Beefeater and Fugazi with Sting-like vocals. It's a strange mix that Franklin, like the DC bands of the mid-‘80s, makes work most of the time. Some of the songs tend to stray, but not for long and the band does an admirable job of fusing the disparate musical styles. (Tree)
