Frank Zappa's Final Album to Be Released

Frank Zappa's massive discography is about to get even bigger, as his final album Dance Me This is set to receive its long-promised release. It's due out on June 1.

Reports about the album have been swirling around for many years, and according to JamBase, an email from Zappa's family calls it "the last title FZ finished in 1993 along with Trance-Fusion; the last chapter in his Master Work, Civilization, Phase III; and of course, The Rage & The Fury, The Music of Edgard Varèse." It's cited as his 100th album.

Slightly suspiciously, the album was announced on Zappa's website on April Fool's Day (April 1). That being said, the post is still up and CD copies are available to pre-order, so it's probably safe to say this is real. The website encourages fans, "Tap your foot algorithmically to this!"

Way back in 1993, Zappa told Guitarist Magazine, "And what I'm working on right at the moment is a Synclavier album called Dance Me This, which is designed to be used by modern dance groups. It's probably not going to come out until next year." That never happened, however, as he lost his battle with prostate cancer later in 1993.

The album can be ordered here.
