German composer and video artist Frank Bretschneider comes out with Exp, a two-CD audio-visual release based on the concept that "fine art should attain the abstract purity of music." Born in 1956, with a background in graphic arts and painting, Bretschneider began experimenting with music via tape manipulation in 1986. His influential underground band, AG.Geige, led him to explore the relationship of combining art and music through film, video and computer graphics. In 1995, he and Olaf Bender (aka Byetone) co-founded Rastermusic (now known as Raster-Noton) as a means to release their musical experiments. Raster-Noton has since become a highly regarded label for its distinct aesthetic and clinical artistic vision. On Exp, Bretschneider seamlessly customizes computer-generated graphics to represent precise sound patterns. His pulsating clicks, animated bass and complex rhythm structures simultaneously synced with stunningly stark visuals successfully allude to the concept that all sound waves are visible.
