Once again, Jack White and his Third Man Records are turning their attention to a reissue campaign, this time shining a light on late French pop singer France Gall.
On February 21, Third Man will be issuing the first North American vinyl pressings of Gall's 1965 album Poupée de Cire, Poupée de Son, 1966's Baby Pop and 1968's accurately titled 1968.
Gall passed away in 2018 at the age of 70. For the unfamiliar, Third Man writes the following:
France Gall was a prolific French vocalist and performer, remembered as one of the central figures of the 1960s yé-yé pop movement. Aligning catchy, spirited rhythms with lighthearted lyrics and drawing from the beat music a la early Beatles and Hollies, the yé-yé artists promoted a sort of new freedom of expression and breaking down of social barriers in post-WWII France.
Alongside the reissues, Third Man will be hosting a series of release parties around North America on February 21, when "DJs will spin yé-yé (the style of music for which Gall is known) and French psych." Limited-edition coloured pressings of the reissues will be available at the parties, including the event in Montreal.
