Peter Benisch may be better known in his native Sweden as a techno producer par excellence, but in these territories he's primarily known by his FPU retro-electro alter-ego. Last year's "Crockett's Theme," was a deserved underground smash and led many to wonder why it had taken so long for someone to revisit Jan Hammer's Miami Vice classics. Of course, we all knew deep inside one revisit was enough. Firmly ensconced on Tiga's Turbo recordings, he continues Montreal's electro assault, but despite his obvious skills and the enjoyment he derives from '80s music, he doesn't add anything new to the recipe. There's some interesting melodies and beats, but Benisch's debut artist album as FPU is essentially 11 variations on a theme.
