Foxygen

"Shuggie" (video)

Yesterday (November 29) we learned that Astoria, NY ensemble Foxygen will be joining Unknown Mortal Orchestra on their North American tour next year, which works well since the group issue their We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic LP January 22 through Jagjaguwar. The band are already promoting the set, though, via their somewhat strange video for album track "Shuggie."

Like the song itself, which jarringly bounces between lite indie-funk and giddily symphonic psych-pop, the video is a scattered collection of visuals, from a family dinner, to the birth of a child, to people jogging down a highway whilst holding big black boxes. Truthfully, we're not entirely sure how the lyrics about slinging free sodas to people at the bar line up with the visuals of people rubbing street fudge all over their bodies, but we have at least a couple of months to connect the dots before the band hit up Canada.
