Fox Swipes Arcade Fire Tune For Super Bowl

BY Scott A. GrayPublished Feb 4, 2008

In another distressing incident of a major corporation exploiting the perceived coolness of "indie" music, Fox used the Arcade Fire’s "No Cars Go” for an NFL highlight reel during Super Bowl Sunday. Now, even though Win Butler’s been known to shoot a few hoops, the group have never seemed the types who'd sell their music to Rupert Murdoch in the name of astro-turf or excessive ad dollars ($100,000 per second of broadcasting time).

According to Pitchfork and strangeglue, not only did the band definitely not authorise the song’s use, Fox didn’t even bother to ask the band for permission. Currently, the band and their team are reviewing the matter to determine if the song usage was illegal and what their next course of action will be.
