Four Tet / Various FabricLive.59
While recording There is Love in You, Keiran Hebden (aka Four Tet) took to the clubs for inspiration, previewing many of his new tracks at London hot-spot Plastic People. Therefore, it makes sense that Hebden's submission into the long-running FabricLive series comes off not only as one of the best, but the most authentic. Placing hard to find, vintage two-step garage (Crazy Bald Heads, Persian, Active Minds) alongside current favs (Manitoba, Burial, Ricardo Villalobos), Hebden's mix feels both fresh and edifying. Four Tet's three proper original compositions ("Fabric," "Pyramid" and "Locked") show just how stimulated the London DJ has become, utilizing jittery stick figure breaks under buttery, processed synth accents. The fact that Four Tet took such great care in creating FabricLive.59 ― from the field recordings of the actual club to the lengths he took tracking down many of these records to the fact that he repressed all-digital recordings to acetate vinyl ― should keep listeners feeling just as impassioned.
