Former Primal Scream guitarist Robert "Throb" Young was found dead on Tuesday (September 9) at his Sussex, UK home. A cause of death has yet to be revealed, but the musician was 49 years old.

As the Guardian reports, authorities found Young at his apartment at 3:30 p.m. local time. They deemed the death to be non-suspicious.

Primal Scream vocalist Bobby Gillespie and guitarist Andrew Innes released a joint statement about the death of their friend and former bandmate following the news of his passing, which reads:

We have lost our comrade and brother Robert Young. A beautiful and deeply soulful man. He was an irreplaceable talent, much admired amongst his peers, In the words of Johnny Marr 'Throb with a gold top Les Paul — 'unbeatable'

He was a true rock and roller. He walked the walk. He had 'Heart & Soul' tattooed on his arm and I'm sure on his heart too. He once said to me 'when we go onstage it's a war between us and the audience.' He never let go of that attitude.

Young had joined the English rock outfit in 1986, first playing bass on the band's 1987 debut full-length Sonic Flower Groove. He switched to guitar for 1989's Primal Scream and played on well-regarded entries like 1991's Screamadelica, 2000's XTRMNTR and more. Young's last record before leaving in 2006 was that year's Riot City Blues.

Young is survived by his sons Brandon and Miles, their mother Jane, and his wife Rachel.
