Former Beach Fossils Member John Peña Announce Sophomore Album as Heavenly Beat

BY Alex HudsonPublished Aug 9, 2013

Scarcely a year removed from 2012's debut album, former Beach Fossils bassist John Peña has announced his latest album as Heavenly Beat. Prominence is out on October 15 through Captured Tracks.

The album was recorded and mixed in early 2013 in the same apartment where Peña made last year's Talent; this followed a failed attempt at mixing in a proper studio. It features classical guitar, steel drums, sampled drum breaks and keyboards.

Peña played most of the instruments himself, with live members Christian Barsi and Daniel Schlett also pitching in at points. A press release notes, "Prominence carries on in a seemingly effortless manner as lush waves of sound dance and gleaming drums dance around Peña's breathy vocals, washing over the listener with enchanting exuberance."
