Dan Nelson was the singer of thrash metal veterans Anthrax for less than two years, but his short time as a member isn't stopping the frontman from suing his former band for a hefty $2.65 million.
Nelson is attesting that drummer Charlie Benante, bassist Frank Bello and guitarist Scott Ian announced that the singer had abruptly quit the group after falling ill, but Nelson is saying that wasn't true. He's also accusing Benante of calling him a "bully" in a recent interview. Blabbermouth published an excerpt of a conversation with Guitar World in which the drummer said, "He's a bully and he tried to bully us."
Nelson is alleging that he lost income and that his reputation was blighted due to this "intentional defamation" from his former bandmates.
What's more, he claims that he hasn't got his fair share of the profits from this year's album Worship Music. The LP was originally recorded with Nelson as the vocalist, but the parts were redone by returning singer Joey Belladonna. Nelson says that he helped to write the tracks and hasn't got his due.
Nelson's split from Anthrax was confusing from the get-go, as they've been squabbling about the illness issue since 2009. If we're lucky, maybe this court case will finally shed some light on the matter.
