For Fuck's Sake: Apple Just Patented Some Anti-Swearing Software

BY Josiah HughesPublished Apr 1, 2016

The internet's a scary place today with all of the jokesters and their various pranks. But here's a crazy idea that's entirely true — Apple has just patented software that can block curse words from the content on your music device.

According to a report from Business Insider, the tech giant has created technology that can automatically scan songs that are streamed online and edit out any swear words in the lyrics.

The patent is called "Management, Replacement and Removal of Explicit Lyrics During Audio Playback" and was filed way back in September 2014.

The technology opens up a variety of options to replace the naughty, unspeakable cuss words that occasionally pop up in some songs. The system could bleep out swears, replace them with other words, or even delete them from the songs altogether and fill in the gaps with seamless music.

Music isn't the only thing that Apple is considering for its new censorship program. The company's technology also works with audio books and would be able to edit out dirty words or even full-on sex scenes.

Apple hasn't introduced the technology to the public just yet, but it's certainly good news for parents who want the option to censor their kids' listening experience — or people who want to listen to a very boring version of the Fifty Shades of Grey audio book.
