Foals

"What Went Down"

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jun 16, 2015

Foals recently announced their album What Went Down, and now the UK indie rock outfit have followed up the previously unveiled trailer with a full stream of the title track.

The song is an urgent rock anthem in which frontman Yannis Philippakis sings about guilt, lost love, and admits, "I tried and I tried and I was never the same." But despite the confessional nature of the lyrics, he doesn't sound particularly vulnerable, since the brawny arrangement consists of bombastically heavy riffs, threatening grooves and growing shouts.

"What Went Down" premiered on Annie Mac's BBC Radio 1 show. Hear the song below.

What Went Down will be out on August 28 through Warner Bros./Transgressive Records.
