Flying Nun Records Looks Back on 30 Years with 'Tally Ho!' Best-Of Set

BY Alex HudsonPublished Dec 27, 2011

As previously reported, iconic Kiwi pop label Flying Nun Records recently turned 30, and it celebrated the occasion with a variety of shows, reissues and compilations. One of these label-spanning comps is the best-of album Tally Ho! Flying Nun's Greatest Bits, which is due out January 31.

This two-CD set includes a whopping 40 tracks, all from different artists belonging to the Flying Nun catalogue. Some of these bands had some success outside of the New Zealand, such as the Clean, the Bats, the Chills and Shocking Pinks, while others are mostly known to fans of the scene.

Tally Ho! takes its name from the Clean song of the same name, as that single helped establish the label when it unexpectedly became a minor hit in 1981. An announcement for the set notes, "This two-disc set collects material that falls under the broad category of 'pop music' as well as that which pushed boundaries and did not sit comfortably within the popular market. At the same time, the two discs overlap a great deal, and together they showcase an important and creatively powerful artistic output that remains relevant today."

Check out the tracklist below and the cover above. Sorry, vinyl lovers, this one doesn't appear to be coming out on wax.
