Flying Lotus Working on Jazz Album, Captain Murphy Album and 'Aqua Teen Hunger Force' Theme

Beloved beatmaker Flying Lotus has refused to slow down since the release of his last proper studio album Until the Quiet Comes last year. The ridiculously busy artist currently has three new projects on the go.

In a recent interview with Brightest Young Things, he offered up a logical explanation for his recent Herbie Hancock collaboration (see above photo), explaining that he's hard at work on a jazz album.

"Right now, I'm on my jazz shit, man," he said. "I'm doing a lot of jazz stuff. We're trying to make something that's kind of a geek album. There are crazy time signatures and really intense playing, just because we want to go there. We want to play really fast. It's gonna be fun, man." He went on to explain that, due to the collaborative nature of the project, it'll probably come out under a different moniker than Flying Lotus.

Speaking of different monikers, he's also hard at work on a follow-up to Duality, the debut release from his rap alter-ego Captain Murphy. The beats are all done, he said, and while it's a mostly solo affair there are also appearances from Jeremiah Jae, Hudson Mohawke and Madlib on the release.

Finally, Spin pointed out that FlyLo will follow-up his recent Adventure Time original song with a new theme song for Adult Swim's flagship stoner cartoon Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

"[Aqua Teen creator] Dave Willis hit me up one day and asked if I was interested and I told him that it had to be me," he said. "We decided on the track but the words have to be put to it. Gonna finish it really soon. Thundercat is on it too, and maybe a guest vocal."
