Flying Lotus

'BBC Radio 1 Residency'

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jan 16, 2015

Flying Lotus is the latest artist to take over the airwaves on BBC Radio 1, and his residency is off to a pretty good start.

Last night (January 15) marked the beatmaker's first day on the job, and his curated playlist included recent cuts from James Blake and Rae Sremmurd, as well as oldies from the likes of Electric Light Orchestra and Pink Floyd.

But the real treats came in the form of a couple of unreleased FlyLo tracks and a previously unheard Thundercat song. He spun his own "Theme (Alternate Edit)" and "Post Requisite," in addition to a reworked version of the Kendrick Lamar-assisted "Never Catch Me."

As for the Thundercat tune, it's called "You're Dead," but FlyLo notes that he has no idea where it came from or when it might get an official release, so: "Don't call!"

You can listen to his inaugural residency playlist over here, courtesy of BBC Radio 1.

Flying Lotus' You're Dead! is out now via Warp.

UPDATE: You can also check out that alternate version of "Never Catch Me" and the Thundercat track below.
