Florida Teacher Suspended for Using Lil Wayne Lyrics for Homework Assignment

Many high school English teachers use rap lyrics to try to convince their students that poetry is cool, but one Florida teacher went a little too far in her mission, since she has been suspended for distributing Lil Wayne lyrics to her eighth grade class.

The Charter Schools of Boynton Beach confirmed to Florida TV station WPTV [via AllHipHop] that a teacher gave out the lyrics to Weezy's Cory Gunz-featuring song "6 Foot 7 Foot" as a homework assignment. The 2010 single, which was the rapper's comeback track after prison and subsequently appeared on 2011's Tha Carter IV, was reportedly given to the kids in uncensored form.

According to a statement from the principal, the lyrics were given out as an example of literary devices in a unit that also included Edgar Allen Poe and William Shakespeare.

It's no surprise that some parents were unhappy, since the Lil Wayne song includes profanity, racial language and lines like "Two bitches at the same time, synchronized swimmers / Got the girl twisted cause she open when you twist her / Never met the bitch, but I fuck her like I missed her."

The teacher's use of the song was not approved by the school, and she apparently acknowledges that it wasn't appropriate for a school assignment. The teacher had a previously untarnished record and will be suspended for three days.
