Fleetwood Mac co-founder Peter Green has died. He was 73.
The news came from Green's family, who issued a statement via Swan Turton solicitors. According to the statement, "It is with great sadness that the family of Peter Green announce his death this weekend, peacefully in his sleep. A further statement will be provided in the coming days."
The singer-guitarist co-founded Fleetwood Mac in 1968, during the band's blues rock era. He played on their first three albums: Fleetwood Mac (1968), Mr. Wonderful (1968) and Then Play On (1969).
He left Fleetwood Mac in 1970 due to struggles with mental illness and drug use. He was later diagnosed with schizophrenia before relaunching his music career as a solo artist in the late '70s. He made an uncredited appearance on Fleetwood Mac's 1978 album Tusk.. He later formed Peter Green Splinter Group.
