Published Feb 08, 2011Though 2011 is already shaping up to be a busy year for the Flaming Lips, what with their proposed monthly singles, iPhone-friendly jams and Neon Indian collabs, the Oklahoman combo have slotted yet another release into their hectic schedule.
The Lips are set to release a new box set that will cover the band's work from the early '90s to early 2000s. Titled Heady Nuggs: The First 5 Warner Bros. Records 1992 - 2002, the collection is set to drop as a Record Store Day release on April 16.
The following albums are included in Heady Nuggs: Hit to Death in the Future Head (1992), Transmissions from the Satellite Heart (1993), Clouds Taste Metallic (1995), The Soft Bulletin (1999) and Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots (2002). Sadly, the multi-stereo experience, 1997's Zaireeka, will not be included, despite tracks from the album previously popping up on singles as complete single-stereo mixes.
The standard edition of the box will be presented as five 140-gram black vinyl platters, while a "special limited edition" version will see the records pressed onto five different colours. The coloured version will reportedly only be available through the group's web store.
Thanks to Consequence of Sound for the heads-up.
