Flaming Lips Set Sights on New Film with, Um, Justin Timberlake

When the Flaming Lips aren't chilling in a bathtub on Google Maps or releasing covers of classic albums, the band are recording their own studio albums. And when they aren't doing that, they're making feature-length movies that, this time around, may or may not feature pop megastar Justin Timberlake.

It's true: the Oklahoma weirdos have begun work on a cinematic follow-up to their 2008 film Christmas on Mars, and according to Billboard, they're hoping to secure Timberlake for a starring role.

"I'm in the process of begging Justin Timberlake to be part of it; if I'm lucky, I'll be able to wear him down in another year," head Lip Wayne Coyne said.

Another year? Don't hold your breath for this one, folks: "I think everybody would be relieved if it all got done in six weeks and we could say, 'Look at that!' But because I get to do it with people I love and it's my art, I don't care how long it takes."

Coyne has mentioned that he wants this film to have more actors beyond JT, and he's working on securing the unnamed celebs right now. Of course, all this doesn't necessarily mean the film will be much longer in the making than Christmas on Mars. This film, unlike Mars, won't require Coyne to build so many space-station sets, as he explains, "This one is set in someone's house and in a back yard and in a slaughterhouse; all those are available to me right here, so I don't have to build everything this time."

Okay, so only five years until this hits DVD then?
