The Flaming Lips Plotting The Soft Bulletin: Live La Fantastique de Institution 2011

BY Alex HudsonPublished May 4, 2011

Pop weirdos the Flaming Lips have already announced plans to release a live version of their beloved 1999 LP The Soft Bulletin via a USB stick implanted in a marijuana-flavoured gummy skull. For those hoping that a live version of the classic album would see a wider release, you're in luck.

A Lips rep has confirmed to Consequence of Sound that the band are indeed preparing some new tracks and intend to release a proper live recording of The Soft Bulletin.

We still don't know when or in what format the recordings will see the light of day, but we do have cover art to feast our eyes on. This comes from the band's official Twitter account, and it reveals that the album will be called The Soft Bulletin: Live La Fantastique de Institution 2011. We also know the live release will drop via Warner.

In some related news, the Flaming Lips will be heading out on tour this summer, with a number of dates devoted to full performances of The Soft Bulletin or Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon. You can see all the dates below, including stops at the Ottawa Bluesfest and Montreal's Osheaga.
