The Flaming Lips Plot Split Covers Release with Tame Impala and New Record Store Day EP
The Flaming Lips and Tame Impala make a perfect pair. Not only are they two of the world's pre-eminent psychedelic bands, they are touring together this fall and have covered one another's songs. Soon, the bands will take their mutual admiration party to the next level by releasing a collaborative EP.

The Future Heart points out that Wayne Coyne announced the team-up via his new Instagram account. The Lips frontman posted an image of the lyrics to Tame Impala's "Runway, Houses, City, Clouds," along with the note, "doing a Tame Impala does Flaming Lips songs and Flaming Lips do Tame Impala songs 4 song vinyl!! Only available at the shows !!!"

While a tracklist has yet to be officially confirmed, evidence points to the Flaming Lips covering "Runway, Houses, City, Clouds," plus Tame Impala's "Elephant." The Lips recently shared footage of themselves playing the latter in the studio.

Tame Impala, meanwhile, have been playing "Are You a Hypnotist??" and "Silver Trembling Hands" at live shows. Watch footage of these covers (plus the Lips' "Elephant") at the bottom of this page. Also below, see the schedule for the two bands' shows together.

Meanwhile, The Future Heart additionally notes that the Flaming Lips recorded a song for the upcoming movie Ender's Game, and this has spawned a six-track EP called Peace Sword. It will be released on vinyl on November 29 for Record Store Day's Black Friday event.

It's confirmed that the short collection will include songs called "Think Like a Machine, Not a Boy," "Wolf Children," Assassin Beetle/The Dream Is Ending" and "If They Move, Shoot Em." Additionally, the vinyl will apparently feature etchings denouncing author Orson Scott Card (who wrote the 1985 novel Ender's Game) for his anti-gay marriage stance.
