Flaming Lips' Dark Side of the Moon Album Due out Next Week

BY Brock ThiessenPublished Dec 17, 2009

Just in case hanging a fetus on your Christmas tree isn't really your thing, the Flaming Lips are giving us yet another yuletide offering. Come December 22, freaky Oklahomans will release The Flaming Lips and Stardeath and White Dwarfs with Henry Rollins and Peaches Ding the Dark Side of the Moon.

Of course, as you can tell from the exceptionally long and descriptive album title, this record will feature the Lips and guests' efforts to recreate Pink Floyd's 1973 psych-rock classic Dark Side of the Moon. Unfortunately, if you were looking forward to slapping this one on the ol' turntable while you sit back and soak in those "grooves," you likely won't get that chance. This one is digital-only, with the release coming out on December 22 exclusively on iTunes and a week later on December 29 on other digital retailers.

The Flaming Lips and Stardeath and White Dwarfs will perform the entire album on New Year's Eve at the Cox Center in Oklahoma City, OK. So far no other Dark Side dates have been announced.

Thanks to Consequence of Sound for the heads-up.
