Published Oct 07, 2011Between collaborations with Neon Indian, Prefuse 73 and Lightning Bolt, releasing music in gummy skulls and vaginas, and launching six and 24-hour songs, it's been hard to keep up with the Flaming Lips frantic schedule this year. The band, however, will be making things easy for us next Record Store Day, when they release a compilation collecting some of their 2011 experiments.
Speaking with Billboard, leader Coyne revealed that he's hoping the collaborations, which were initially released in limited quantities, will be gathered on one collection by next April. Considering the group also has material on the way that they've recorded with Death Cab For Cutie, Ghostland Observatory and Nick Cave, it's only fitting that Coyne also hinted at a second compilation coming out sometime next October. Furthermore, He added that they're looking to work with Ke$ha and Lykke Li as well.
"I am bound to the agreements we have with the other artists because we're doing all of this as limited editions," Coyne said. "They're trusting us not just to sound cool but handle the music with special care."
A full tracklisting for the first compilation has yet to arrive, but Record Store Day is set for April 21, 2012. Maybe we should start lining up for this now?
