The Flaming Lips Announce 'Sgt. Pepper's' Cover Album 'With a Little Help From My Fwends'

BY Josiah HughesPublished May 15, 2014

Rock weirdos the Flaming Lips haven't exactly enjoyed the best PR this month as ousted drummer Kliph Scurlock has suggested racial insensitivity on frontman Wayne Coyne's part. Now that Scurlock has back-pedalled a little, pointing out that he doesn't think Coyne is a full-blown racist, they can move on with their next project — a full-album cover of the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

As previously reported, the album's a star-studded affair, with guest spots confirmed from MGMT, Miley Cyrus and Moby, and likely many more on the way. Rather than simply call it Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, however, the group have revealed that the record will be titled With a Little Help From My Fwends.

The album is set to arrive on October 28 via Warner Bros., but those who pre-order the album will receive a download of their "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" cover on May 18. The song features Miley and Moby, and the band performed it with the former last night. Check it out below.

A portion of sales will benefit the Bella Foundation. The Oklahoma City organization covers the cost of veterinary care for elderly, low-income or terminally ill pet owners.
