Fiona Apple, Patron Saint of being cool, is upholding her promise to relinquish all movie and TV royalties for her Fetch the Bolt Cutter song "Shameika."
Last year, Apple pledged to donate all proceeds from the standout track to the Harlem Children's Zone. And now, "Shameika" is featured in Nia DaCosta's Candyman, the recently released sequel to the 1992 horror classic, which was co-written by DaCosta alongside Jordan Peele and Win Rosenfeld.
The song appears in the background of a scene, playing on a record player in — fittingly — an art critic's apartment.
Apple re-upped her pledge with a handwritten placard re-posted to Instagram fan-page @fionaappleig. Though not run by Apple herself, the Instagram page — along with Tumblr account Fiona Apple Rocks — is the main source for information on Apple and her primary avenue for communicating with fans.
Apple took home the prize for Best Rock Performance at the 2021 Grammy Awards for "Shameika," while Fetch the Bolt Cutters won Best Alternative Music Album. Apple also collaborated with the real-life Shameika, rapper Shameika Stepney, on a new song called "Shameika Says."
