Already thinking about autumn? Wondering what to do a couple of weeks after Thanksgiving? Well, don't forget that the Halifax Pop Explosion is set to go down in Nova Scotia's most popular city this fall.

Running from October 20 to 24, the 17-year-old celebration of all musical forms has gone through three incarnations over the years: the Explosion, the Halifax On Music Festival and finally, the Halifax Pop Explosion. It kept changing as the festival was sold to different people/went out of business, but has been only getting stronger and stronger since it began becoming profitable in 2001.

Not that you really care. What you want to know is who will be playing this year, right? Well, the head honchos have released a few names to entice you into grabbing one of their $80 early bird passes or $190 VIP passes, which are available from July 10 to August 31 online and at all Ticketpro outlets.

So far, the big names for this year's festival include Japandroids, Final Fantasy, the Acorn, Ohbijou and a joint set by Julie Doiron and her sometimes collaborators Herman Dune. More artists will be added over the coming weeks and as always, the festival boasts workshops, panels and guest speakers.

If all of that sounds like something your band needs to be a part of stop by the festival's official website and drop in a submission. In this wonderful world of advanced science, they're now accepting both digital and hard copies until July 20. Good luck!
