Director Cary Fukunaga, known for the gritty film Sin Nombre, has revealed that his next project will be a musical. And rumour has it, Fukunaga has tapped the talents of Final Fantasy's Owen Pallett and Beirut's Zach Condon for the film's soundtrack.
While the details are scarce, Fukunaga has been dropping hints about the project for some time. According to The Playlist, a reader saw Fukunaga at a recent Q & A at the Edinburgh Film Festival, where he supposedly talked about the Pallett/Condon project. Calling it "a kind of fantastical folk story," the director revealed that the film is next on his list, and "confirmed participation of Beirut and Pallett," reports the website.
Fukunaga also revealed that the project will be helmed by Focus Features, and while no timeline has been revealed, here's hoping it comes out soon. After all, those otherworldly indie folk musicals practically write themselves.
