Published Aug 13, 2013Today (August 13) marks the release of Texas math rock duo Feuding Fathers' latest effort, Kid Tested, Father Approved. To mark the five-song collection's arrival via their own Feuding Fathers Records, the band are streaming it in full.
A self-deprecating press release notes, "Math rock is a relentless and lonesome road appreciated solely by societies' 'unawarely exclusive.' Techies, instrumentalists and sound nerds alike, whose sole ambition in life is to discuss rad gear and odd time signatures, are considered kin to drummer Mason Macias and vocalist/guitarist Dustin Coffman."
That being said, the pair's intricate interplay between guitar and drums isn't overly obtuse or unnecessarily obscure, and cuts like "Brass Knucks" and "Don't Bro Me If You Don't Know Me" have enough poppy melodies to appeal to those outside of the math rock world. The songs were recorded at mixed by Erik Wofford at Cacophony Recorders in the band's hometown of Austin, TX.
