Fennesz and Jim O'Rourke Announce Details for New Fenn O'Berg LP

BY Josiah HughesPublished Jan 11, 2010

It's been a full decade since Fenn O'Berg released their debut LP, The Magic Sound of Fenn O'Berg, and they've only squeezed out one other album since then, 2002's The Return of Fenn O'Berg. It makes sense, since the band are composed of experimental busybodies Christian Fennesz, Jim O'Rourke and Peter Rehberg. Fortunately, the trio have found time to make good on their promise to deliver a third album.

The record is called In Stereo and marks the first time the trio have recorded an album in a studio (the first two were edited together live performances). As the press release states, "Whereas previously the emphasis was on a chaotic blend of found samples mangled through their mobile computing systems to create a humorous oddball sound, In Stereo implements a wider instrumental palette of analogue and digital synthesis, guitar, piano, bass and percussion. What they do maintain is the ability to make a near-psychedelic audio blend where it's impossible to determine who does what."

In Stereo will be available on CD and deluxe gatefold double-vinyl with an extra track (hard to choose, right?), and will be released on March 3 via Editions Mego. If you're the pre-ordering type, you can reserve your copy here.
