Father John Misty has been striking a political nerve as of late with a few one-off song drops, but his latest in "Pure Comedy," which arrives accompanied by a video, might take the cake.
As it happens, "Pure Comedy" is truly anything but, with both Tillman's song and video taking aim at America's current state from the miracle of life to the country's current turbulent political and cultural climate, illustrated with a handful of news clips. A description reveals that the video was created by Matthew Daniel Siskin, in addition to "everyone in America."
UPDATE (1/23, 1:30 p.m. EST): It seems the details from Father John Misty's new album have leaked. As Stereogum points out, a Shazam search for "Pure Comedy" reveals the cover art above, and a cached merch page shows that a new album also called Pure Comedy ships out on March 31. At this point, however, there is no official word from Tillman's camp about the supposed new album.
UPDATE (1/24, 10:30 a.m. EST): The album has now been officially announced and is due out on April 7 via Sub Pop. You can learn all about it here.
