Father John Misty

"Maybe, Sweet One, You Won't Have Nightmares Tonight"

According to Father John Misty, his appearance on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert last week was to find him premiering a new song as part of a comedy sketch. While the piece was cut for time,  the song has now gone live online. Full of frightening, if hilarious scenarios, the ballad is called "Maybe, Sweet One, You Won't Have Nightmares Tonight."

A softly swung lullaby, the track has Father John Misty detailing phatasmagoric visions of a corridor lined with self-portraits that scream at you. Elsewhere, it has him reporting on a macabre dreamscape fashion sense  that includes a "human hair hat," while a series of ghoulish cries usher in a weird passage about burying birds.

As if reading everyone's minds, the singer-songwriter also tunefully weighs in on that all-too-common plight of discovering, just moments before an orgy begins, that's you're an android without a penis.

Whether it makes you laugh, cry or shriek in terror remains up for debate, but you can check out Father John Misty's thankfully unsheathed new single below.
