Sadly, today (July 31) marks the one-year anniversary of the death of No Use for a Name frontman Tony Sly. To mark the occasion, Fat Wreck Chords have properly unveiled the plans for their previously announced tribute LP to the late punk singer/songwriter.
The imprint posted today that they'll issue The Songs of Tony Sly: A Tribute this October 29 on CD, LP and digitally. Label head Fat Mike had previously confirmed that Bad Religion, Lagwagon, Dropkick Murphys, Rise Against, NOFX, Frank Turner, Pennywise, the Gaslight Anthem and Bouncing Souls would all be putting their own twists on Sly's old songs, but an expanded contributors list now also includes Snuff, Swingin' Utters, Simple Plan, Alkaline Trio, Anti-Flag and more. The LP is capped by a cut from Scorpios, the band Sly had been in with Lagwagon's Joey Cape, as well as Jon Snodgrass and Brian Wahlstrom. The surviving members recently wrapped up a U.S./Canada summer tour that toasted Sly's tunes onstage.

We can't express how much it means to us and Tony's family that each of the artists and bands on this album took the time and effort to contribute such meaningful and interesting interpretations of Tony's songs. All proceeds from this compilation will go to the Tony Sly Memorial Fund.
