The Fall’s Mark E. Smith vs. Mumford & Sons

It’s no secret that The Fall’s Mark E. Smith has a bit of a mouth on him. Over the years the prolific post-punker has seethed over a ton of things, from famously calling Pavement a Fall rip-off act to the fact that he’s never been able to find a solid backup band, despite the seemingly hundreds of musicians that have passed through his outfit’s ranks. It was no surprise then to hear that Smith had a hissy fit at Ireland’s Electric Picnic festival last month, where he hilariously directed his anger towards gentle folkies Mumford & Sons

An interview with Australia’s Brag magazine [via Gigwise] reveals that Smith was so upset by the group’s “terrible” vocal warm-ups near his dressing room that he had to give them a piece of his mind.

"I said, 'Shut them cunts up,' and they were still warming up, so I threw a bottle at them,” Smith said. "The band said, 'That's the Sons of Mumford or something, they're No. 5 in charts!' I just thought they were a load of retarded Irish folk singers."

Let’s just say if Smith’s looking for some new collaborators, Mumford & Sons just failed the audition.
