Fake Palms

"Sparkles" on Exclaim! TV

BY Nadia RompasPublished Sep 2, 2015

Fake Palms was Michael le Riche's bedroom pop project four years ago, but the band have since expanded into a four-member lineup that boasts members of Hooded Fang, Slim Twig and Burning Love. The Toronto-based noise-pop group make the unconventional sound familiar, as they experiment with odd time signatures, guitar spurs and loud distorted drums and glossing them with hummable pop melodies. The band's debut self-titled album is out now through Buzz Records.

For this episode of Exclaim! TV, we filmed a session with the band in our backyard, where they performed a solid live rendition of "Sparkles," off their debut record.

Here, the interplay between sparkling, lightly distorted guitar melodies, a flowing groovy bass line and dream-pop vocals are evident and striking, and when they break out into sudden blasts of pure noise, the uniqueness of their sound really shines through.
