The Extroverts 'Extroverts Demo 1979' (album stream)
Seminal Saskatchewan punk band the Extroverts recently uncovered and remastered a collection of original demos from 1979-80, and they'll be getting released as Extroverts Demo 1979 this week. Before the collection is officially out, though, Exclaim! is streaming the 14-song set in its entirety for your listening pleasure.
The group formed in 1979, writing and playing with ferocious fervour until 1982. After a one-off reunion in 1984, the band officially reformed in 2009 with the original lineup of Brent Caron, Eddie Lester, Grant McDonald and Hap Hazard. Now, they're reliving the early years after stumbling across several cassettes of live footage, as well as a weekend session that heard 30 songs committed live to two-track cassette.
Thirteen of those tracks made the cut for the new release, including "Brave New World," "Fungus Man," "(My Home Town Is a) Nuclear Meltdown)" and "Brain Damage." In addition to the lovably ramshackle, pop-tinged, quick-paced punk oldies, there's also a new tune included.
"Hysteria Night" features lyrics from the band's past, but was freshly recorded in 2014 at Regina's Soulsound Studios — the same spot producer Carl Johnson digitally enhanced the soon-to-be-released demos.
The new collection will make its debut at an album release show this Friday (June 12) at O'Hanlon's in Regina, and you can see a couple of the band's other upcoming dates below. Scroll past them and hit play to give Extroverts Demo 1979 an early listen.
