As previously reported, Austin moodsetters Explosions in the Sky recently set to work on a film score to David Gordon Green's Al Pacino-starring Manglehorn. The film has been bouncing around the festival circuit, but you'll be able to hear the score outside of movie houses, as the band have now announced a soundtrack release.
The movie itself, about a small town locksmith (Pacino) trying to start his life over, gets a wider North American release on June 19. Explosions in the Sky will release their aural accompaniment, made alongside past collaborator David Wingo, digitally on June 22, with a vinyl edition said to be arriving later this year through Temporary Residence Ltd., according to Pitchfork.
As previously reported, Manglehorn is the second David Gordon Green film that Explosions in the Sky have worked on. Previously, they had worked with composer Wingo on 2013's Prince Avalanche, which starred Paul Rudd. The score to that film had also been released through Temporary Residence Ltd.
In addition to the upcoming soundtrack release for Manglehorn, a new LP can be expected from Explosions in the Sky at some point in the future. Back in January, the group delivered a message over Facebook that explained that they would be spending much of the year writing the as-yet-untitled LP, which would be their first since 2011's Take Care, Take Care, Take Care.
