Expatriate

Lovers le Strange

BY Michael EdwardsPublished May 1, 2006

Expatriate are a band from Australia who have been getting some attention for their melodic, ’80s influenced pop songs. NME have taken notice, touting them as a band to keep an eye on, but these days that kind of accolade doesn’t really carry the weight it used to in days gone by. Whether the band have it or not is a little hard to tell on the strength of four songs because Lovers le Strange feels like they were trying to show the variety of their sound rather than delivering their best material. While there are far too many albums that have filler tracks, it is more of a problem on an EP. At the moment, they have one killer song — "The Spaces Between” — but unless they’ve got some more tricks up their collective sleeves, they are going to go the way of so many hyped bands that have gone before them.
