Excommunion

Superion

BY Greg PrattPublished Mar 1, 2003

Excommunion, probably hailing from hell, are reminiscent of Incantation in their slower moments and will completely obliterate all listeners with the six long songs on Superion. The lines get blurred with such guttural, evil sludge, but this loveable gaggle of Christ-haters create a sound that is mainly slow death metal with a black metal atmosphere mingling around somewhere, somehow. It's a nice example of how far music has gone, how much we'll punish ourselves, the things we'll put on and say how great it is, then turn it off and thank, uh, Satan it's over. But while it's playing, this is some glorious extreme metal, totally bass-heavy, quite alarming in its capacity for hate and totally impressive in its ability to destroy.
