In addition to being an ever-evolving singer-songwriter, Vancouver's Louise Burns has become an accomplished producer — and her studio wizardry can be heard all over her latest solo album, Element (which she co-produced with Jason Corbett of goth-pop band ACTORS).
The arrangements are both sweetly soft-focus and danceable at the same time, combining her tender and tuneful pop hooks with influences ranging from '90s pop (think Sophie B. Hawkins, Des'ree, Savage Garden or Natalie Merchant) to gauzy new age à la Enya. It's a sonic treat, especially the tropical synthpop sunshower of "Kids" and the flowering bass grooves of "Bloom."
